Morir Soñando is a traditional Dominican drink known for its refreshing blend of fresh orange juice and cold evaporated milk. Sweet, creamy, and citrusy, it’s a beloved beverage often enjoyed on hot days. The name means “to die dreaming,” and one sip is enough to understand why—it’s indulgent, nostalgic, and full of Caribbean flavor.

I’m 20 years old, from a country with the world’s most beautiful beaches. My grandmother Melba made the best Morir Soñando with fresh juice, cold milk, and lots of love. Every sip brings me back to her kitchen and those sweet moments of family and laughter.
I’m 26 and passionate about arts and crafts. I studied bartending and mixology at NUC in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and built a career in culinary at a resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee—my home for the past three years. Working with Work and Travel participants has opened the door to cultural exchange, lasting friendships, and learning new traditions. I enjoyed making Morir Soñando, a sweet, citrusy drink from the Dominican Republic.

4 cups evaporated milk (chilled)
¾ cup sugar
1 tablespoon clear vanilla extract

2 cups ice

1. MIX THE MILK
In a pitcher, whisk together the evaporated milk, sugar, and vanilla until the sugar dissolves completely.
2. ADD THE ORANGE JUICE
